Archipelago Jewelry is a handcrafted jewelry company which features original designs by Liz Juneau. The company was begun in the spring of 2000. Inspiration comes from many sources, one of the most influential is nature – the colors, the feelings, the textures. Other inspiration is from art, fashion, music, and especially people.

The name, Archipelago (ar·chi·pel·a·go), is an analogy of a group of islands in a chain and a chain of beads.

I feel compelled to make jewelry some days! Something just comes over me, I see something that inspires me, and I have to at least start the process. I am not a pen and paper designer, more of a hands on one. I have to put colors next to each other, interspersing textures and techniques until I am happy with the outcome that appeals to my eyes and sometimes to my ears or its feel. I love the jangle of beads on a bracelet and the way a stone on a necklace feels against the skin.

I use a variety of materials including semi-precious stones, glass, pearls, pottery, leather, and sterling silver, pewter, copper, and gold-filled findings. Many are one-of-a-kind creations, some even made with a special person in mind or designed especially for a person or event. I especially like to use vintage jewelry pieces and repurpose them into new designs.

As one gentleman so eloquently stated “you don’t just make beautiful jewelry, you make the women who wear your jewelry beautiful”.

When I am not designing and making jewelry, I enjoy traveling, hiking, or just being around nature. One way of combining all of those favorites is by taking motorcycle trips. Whether going across the country or just for a few hours, it is always an adventure. Another favorite activity is chilling out on my screen porch with a fashion magazine or book.

Thanks so much Allyson. I have not taken the next step to use Etsy nor make it my livliehood, but I am passionate about it and it has opened up a whole new world for me.

Thanks so much for your encouragement. I sometimes get in a creative slump but blogging about my designs and contact with others keep me motivated.
